World Bank outlook points to sharp Iraqi contraction

The World Bank has revised Iraq’s 2026 growth outlook sharply lower, with a forecast contraction of 12.4%, according to reporting by The National. The revision reflects the impact of conflict-related disruption on oil exporters and regional shipping.

Iraq’s dependence on oil for the overwhelming share of public revenue makes it especially vulnerable to lower export volumes, delayed cargoes and higher insurance and transport costs. The outlook adds urgency to efforts to secure alternative trade and energy routes.
