Iraq Targets End to Gas Flaring at Northern Oil Sites by 2027
The Oil Ministry plans to capture 80 million standard cubic feet a day of additional associated gas by end-2026.
Iraq plans to recover an additional 80 million standard cubic feet per day of associated gas from the Bai Hassan, North Jambur and Khabbaz fields by the end of 2026. The programme is intended to eliminate gas flaring across North Oil Company operations by the end of 2027, according to the deputy oil minister for gas affairs.
Captured gas is expected to strengthen fuel supply for power plants and lift liquefied petroleum gas production. The northern fields are also part of BP’s wider Kirkuk redevelopment programme, while Iraq’s national target remains ending routine gas flaring by 2029.
