Ooredoo’s OFN and iQ Networks plan Iraq fibre transit corridor
The dark-fibre agreement would extend the planned FIG subsea cable across Iraq toward Türkiye and Europe, subject to required approvals.
OFN, Ooredoo Group’s international-connectivity arm, has signed an agreement to buy multiple dark-fibre pairs from Iraqi provider iQ Networks for transit across Iraq. The route is intended to link with the planned Fibre in Gulf, or FIG, subsea system landing in Iraq.
The companies say the combined subsea and terrestrial infrastructure could create an additional high-capacity route between Asia, the Gulf and Europe, serving telecom operators, cloud platforms, AI providers and data centres. Ooredoo said implementation remains subject to regulatory, governmental and other required approvals.
