Iraq signs Nineveh seismic-survey contract with KAR
The state-owned Oil Exploration Company will carry out 2D and 3D surveys at the Sasan and Allan oil and gas fields under a new contract with KAR.
Iraq’s Oil Ministry has overseen the signing of a contract between the state-owned Oil Exploration Company and Iraqi firm KAR for seismic work at the Sasan and Allan fields in Nineveh province. The programme covers two-dimensional and three-dimensional surveys designed to improve understanding of the fields’ subsurface potential.
The ministry said the work supports plans to add oil and gas reserves and replace depleted reserves. The Sasan and Allan blocks were awarded to KAR as one project in Iraq’s 2024 licensing round; the next stages are expected to inform subsequent appraisal and field-development decisions.
