Finance Ministry suspends advance customs-fee collection
The ministry linked the suspension to the Cabinet’s new exchange-rate decision.
Iraq’s Finance Ministry said it has stopped implementing a Cabinet decision on the advance collection of customs fees. The announcement followed the Cabinet’s October 6 decision setting the dollar exchange rate at 1,500 dinars.
The step is relevant to importers and consumers because customs procedures and currency costs can feed into retail prices. Further clarification on how the suspension will be applied at border points will be closely watched.
