Basra PMF protest targets government amid flag-case arrests
Demonstrators called for detainees’ release and burned images and flags as tensions over weapons control deepen.
Supporters and members of the Popular Mobilization Forces held a protest on Basra’s Shatt al-Arab Corniche, demanding the release of people detained after a US-flag incident during Sovereignty Day events, Kurdistan24 reported.
The outlet said protesters burned an image of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi as well as US and Israeli flags. The demonstration adds pressure to Baghdad’s wider effort to place weapons under state control.
