Al-Waleed crossing needs further investment to expand trade
Officials say completing development at the Iraq-Syria border crossing requires major funding.
Completing development work at the Al-Waleed border crossing with Syria will require substantial funding, according to the head of Iraq’s Al-Rutba district. Officials see the crossing as a potential source of jobs, local commercial activity and additional trade capacity.
The route links to an international highway and could help connect Iraqi freight with Syrian Mediterranean ports. Its commercial potential, however, depends on infrastructure spending and smoother cross-border operations.
