Ruling alliance says it has agreed on nominees for Iraq’s vacant ministries

Iraq’s ruling Shiite Coordination Framework has reached what a senior lawmaker described as a final agreement on candidates for the nine ministries still vacant nearly five months after Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s government took office, Rudaw reported on October 4.

The report said the Interior, Defense, Planning and other portfolios remain unresolved in formal terms, and lawmakers were expected to consider nominations in parliament. Claims that US objections had previously complicated some appointments were attributed to Mohammed al-Baldawi; Washington had not publicly confirmed any veto.
