Iraq’s 2027 budget draft targets 217 trillion dinars in spending
A parliamentary finance committee member said the draft projects a 50-trillion-dinar deficit and proposes new public-sector contract posts as lawmakers press for greater consultation.
Iraq’s draft 2027 federal budget envisages 217 trillion dinars in spending and a projected 50-trillion-dinar deficit, according to Finance Committee member Abbas Hayal. The proposal assumes oil at $58 a barrel, exports of four million barrels per day and an exchange rate of 1,500 dinars per dollar.
The draft also proposes 100,000 contract positions, split between ministries and security institutions, alongside moves to transfer some contract and daily-wage workers to permanent payrolls. The Finance Committee said it wants closer involvement before the proposal is submitted to parliament, a step due by October 15 under the Finance Administration Law.
