Baghdad has been selected to host the 28th Arabian Gulf Cup, scheduled for December 9-22, 2028. The decision follows an agreement involving the Gulf Cup Football Federation and the Iraqi Football Association, according to Iraqi media reports.
The event will bring the competition back to Baghdad for the first time since the 1979 edition. Iraq previously hosted Gulf Cup 25 in Basra in 2023, and preparations are expected to focus on stadiums, infrastructure and tournament operations.
